Former Florida State wide receiver Ontaria “Pokey” Wilson has made his way back to the NFL after a successful stint in the Canadian Football League (CFL). Wilson, who was originally signed by the Los Angeles Chargers as an undrafted free agent in 2023, was recently released by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to sign with the New York Jets. This marks a significant moment in Wilson’s career as he reunites with former FSU teammates Jordan Travis and Jermaine Johnson II in New York.
Wilson’s journey to the NFL has been one of persistence and growth. After a solid senior season at Florida State in 2022, where he recorded 30 receptions for 495 yards and four touchdowns, Wilson went undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft. However, he continued to impress in the CFL, finishing ninth in receiving with 71 catches for 1,026 yards and three touchdowns. His performance in Canada earned him another shot at the NFL, this time with the Jets, where he will look to contribute to an already competitive team.
During his time at FSU, Wilson became known as “Mr. Reliable,” a dependable target for quarterbacks, particularly in big moments. One of his most memorable plays came in the season opener against LSU, where he made a spectacular one-handed catch for a touchdown. While not considered an All-ACC caliber player, Wilson’s work ethic and consistency made him a valuable asset to the Seminoles’ offense.
The move to the Jets also brings Wilson back to familiar company, with Travis at quarterback and Johnson on the defensive line. This trio of FSU alumni adds another layer of excitement for Florida State fans, who will be cheering for their former players as they make their mark on the NFL. Wilson’s story is one of perseverance, and his reunion with the Jets is a testament to his hard work and determination to succeed at the highest level of football.
