Alabama Basketball has been a powerhouse in the SEC this season, and while they’ve certainly earned their spot as one of the top teams in the conference, there’s still a lot of untapped potential. The Crimson Tide, led by head coach Nate Oats, is currently contending for the SEC’s best title, but they aren’t quite there yet—at least statistically speaking.
What makes Alabama so dangerous is the room for growth within their squad. Despite ranking No. 1 in the country in terms of strength of schedule, the Crimson Tide has yet to fully capitalize on some areas that could push them into an even higher tier of play.
For example, Alabama leads the SEC and Division I basketball in scoring with an impressive 90.9 points per game. However, their field goal shooting is only sixth-best in the SEC, and three-point shooting has been surprisingly off at 32.5%, ranking them 13th in the conference. That’s well below the team’s 37.3% from beyond the arc last season. With more consistent shooting, Alabama could see their offensive efficiency soar.
Additionally, the Crimson Tide has been struggling at the free-throw line, sitting 13th in the SEC with just a 70.6% conversion rate. Last season, they shot 77.2% from the line, so there’s a clear potential for improvement in that area.
Turnovers have also been a concern. Alabama is last in the SEC in turnover margin and struggled in the loss to Ole Miss with 21 turnovers. In their last two games, they’ve committed 20 turnovers—something that needs to be addressed if they want to make a deep postseason run.
Despite these statistical hurdles, Alabama has the talent and the potential to turn things around. If they can shore up these areas, especially as the SEC race heats up in February and March, they’ll be a formidable contender in the postseason. It’s clear: this Alabama team isn’t just good—they’re ready to get even better.
