The Georgia Bulldogs will kick off spring practice without one of their key defensive players. Rising senior cornerback Daylen Everette, the team’s interception leader from the 2024 season, recently underwent surgery to address a sports hernia. While Everette is expected to make a full recovery, he will likely miss Georgia’s spring game, should the team hold one.
Everette’s absence marks a significant loss for Georgia’s secondary during spring drills. A cornerstone of the Bulldogs’ defense, Everette didn’t miss a single game last season, recording 58 tackles, one sack, two forced fumbles, and three interceptions—leading the team in that category. His performance solidified him as the top cornerback option heading into the 2025 season.
It remains unclear when Everette sustained the injury, but reports indicate he will either participate on a limited basis during spring practice or sit out entirely. With Everette sidelined, younger players like Daniel Harris and Ellis Robinson will have the opportunity to compete for first-team reps. This development could also influence the ongoing competition for the starting cornerback spot opposite Everette.
Everette is not the only Bulldog recovering from offseason surgery. Defensive lineman Christen Miller recently underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum, and several other players will also be limited this spring. Offensive lineman Monroe Freeling (shoulder), linebacker Gabe Harris (left arm), and tight end Colton Heinrich (undisclosed) are all on the mend.
The Georgia secondary will see a mix of returning talent and new faces this season. Alongside Everette, the Bulldogs have bolstered their depth with transfers Jaden Harris, Adrian Maddox, and Zion Branch. Despite the temporary setbacks, Georgia’s defensive unit remains one of the strongest in college football, with plenty of time to adjust before the 2025 season kicks off.
Spring practice is expected to begin in mid-March, giving the Bulldogs a chance to assess their roster and build depth in critical areas. While Everette’s absence will be felt, it also provides an opportunity for younger players to step up and prove their worth.
The Bulldogs, coming off another stellar season, will look to maintain their dominance on the defensive side of the ball. Everette’s return to full health by the fall will be key as Georgia eyes another deep postseason run in 2025.
