Florida Gators sophomore forward/center Alex Condon continues to etch his name into the program’s history books, earning his third Southeastern Conference (SEC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honor for the 2024-25 season. The announcement, made Monday by the SEC, cements Condon’s status as one of the conference’s brightest stars.
Condon’s dominant performances last week propelled the Gators to two pivotal victories, including a career-high 27 points, 10 rebounds, and two blocks in Florida’s road win over No. 7 Alabama. His performance made him the first SEC player this century to achieve such stats in a top-10 road win and only the fifth nationally to do so. Condon followed that with another stellar outing against Ole Miss, notching 17 points and 15 rebounds in just 23 minutes of action.
The Perth, Australia, native showcased his efficiency and impact early against Ole Miss, grabbing seven rebounds within the game’s first five minutes. By halftime, Condon was already on the cusp of a double-double with eight points and 10 rebounds. His efforts keyed Florida’s dominance on the boards, as the Gators posted a +12 rebounding margin and held Ole Miss to 33.3% shooting on interior attempts.
Condon’s consistency in big moments has been a hallmark of his season. He previously earned SEC Player of the Week honors for his performances in Florida’s wins over two No. 1-ranked teams earlier this year. His ability to deliver in crucial games has been instrumental in Florida’s 27-4 overall record and 14-4 SEC mark, earning the Gators a No. 2 seed in the upcoming SEC Tournament.
With this latest accolade, Condon becomes just the second Gator in program history to win SEC Player of the Week three times in a single season, joining Jalen Hudson (2017-18). The recognition also places him among Florida legends like Joakim Noah, Scottie Wilbekin, and Vernon Maxwell, who have all received multiple SEC Player of the Week honors in a season.
Florida head coach Todd Golden praised Condon’s continued growth, stating, “Alex’s work ethic and ability to rise to the occasion in big games have been incredible for us. He’s a leader on and off the court, and his performances speak for themselves.”
The Gators are now gearing up for the SEC Tournament, where they will face LSU, Mississippi State, or Missouri in Friday’s quarterfinal round at 7 p.m. EDT in Nashville. With Condon leading the way, Florida looks poised to make a deep run in the postseason.
As the Gators march forward, Condon’s stellar play remains a critical factor in their success. Fans and analysts alike will be watching to see if he can add more accolades to his already impressive season.
