Florida State University has officially announced the hiring of Luke Loucks as the new head coach for the men’s basketball program. Loucks, a former Florida State standout and experienced NBA assistant coach, takes the reins of the Seminoles with a vision to restore the team to national prominence.
Loucks, 33, is no stranger to the Florida State basketball program. He played under legendary coach Leonard Hamilton from 2008 to 2012, helping lead the Seminoles to an ACC Championship and multiple NCAA Tournament appearances. Known for his high basketball IQ and leadership on the court, Loucks graduated as one of the program’s all-time leaders in assists and minutes played.
After his collegiate career, Loucks transitioned into coaching, gaining valuable experience at the professional level. He most recently served as an assistant coach for the Golden State Warriors, contributing to their player development and game strategies. Loucks was instrumental in the growth of several young players and played a key role in the team’s championship culture.
Florida State’s Athletic Director, Michael Alford, expressed confidence in Loucks’ ability to lead the program. “Luke Loucks embodies the qualities we were looking for in a head coach,” Alford said. “He is a proven leader, a brilliant basketball mind, and someone who deeply understands and values the culture of Florida State basketball. We are excited to welcome him back to Tallahassee.”
Loucks takes over a program that has a rich history but has faced recent challenges. The Seminoles finished the 2024-25 season with a 13-18 record, missing the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive year. Loucks is expected to bring fresh energy and a modern approach to the team, with an emphasis on player development, aggressive defense, and an up-tempo offensive style.
In his introductory press conference, Loucks expressed his gratitude and excitement for the opportunity. “This is a dream come true,” he said. “Florida State has always been home to me, and I am honored to lead this program. I look forward to building a team that Seminole fans can be proud of, both on and off the court.”
Fans and alumni are optimistic about the future under Loucks’ leadership. His connection to the program, combined with his NBA coaching experience, positions him as a promising hire to guide the Seminoles back to the top of the ACC and beyond.
With recruiting season and offseason preparations ahead, Loucks is wasting no time getting to work, aiming to bring Florida State men’s basketball back to the national stage.
