University of Texas women’s basketball standout Madison Booker has been named a semifinalist for the prestigious 2025 Jersey Mike’s Naismith Trophy Women’s College Player of the Year, as announced by the Atlanta Tipoff Club on Thursday.
Booker, a sophomore, has had a phenomenal season, solidifying her status as one of the nation’s premier players. After earning First Team All-American honors and the Cheryl Miller Award in 2024, she has continued to impress with her consistent and high-level performances. Recently, Booker was named SEC Player of the Year, marking her second consecutive conference player of the year honor after earning the Big 12 title during her freshman campaign.
This season, Booker has scored in double figures in 27 games and recorded 20 or more points in 12 outings. She has also been a force on the boards, ranking second on the team in rebounding and tallying seven double-doubles. Booker’s efficiency has been a key to her success, shooting 45.9% from the field, 43.9% from beyond the arc, and an impressive 82.9% from the free-throw line.
Her impact has been especially pronounced in critical matchups. Over Texas’ last eight games against ranked opponents, including five victories over top-10 teams, Booker has averaged 20.5 points and 7.6 rebounds per game while shooting 45% from the floor and 85% from the charity stripe.
Booker played a pivotal role in leading the Longhorns to a share of the SEC regular-season championship in their first year in the conference. She also helped Texas secure the Big 12 Tournament title as a freshman in 2024, earning Most Outstanding Player honors for her standout performance.
Under Booker’s leadership, the Longhorns have continued their tradition of excellence, capturing either a regular-season or conference tournament championship in each of the last four seasons.
The Naismith Trophy Women’s College Player of the Year is awarded annually to the top player in the nation. Booker joins an elite group of semifinalists, including Paige Bueckers (UConn), JuJu Watkins (USC), and Haily Van Lith (TCU).
As the Longhorns prepare for the NCAA Tournament, Booker’s contributions will undoubtedly remain central to Texas’ quest for postseason glory.
