Otega Oweh once again played the hero for Kentucky, leading the Wildcats to a thrilling 85-84 victory over Oklahoma in the SEC Tournament. The former Sooner delivered another clutch moment, scoring the game-winning layup with just seconds left after Kentucky nearly squandered a double-digit lead.
Earlier this season, Oweh torched Oklahoma with 18 straight points in a last-second win. This time, he dropped 27 points on 14 field goal attempts, helping the Wildcats avoid disaster after Oklahoma erased a 12-point deficit in the final minutes. Kentucky led 80-70 with 1:20 left before an Oklahoma surge put them down 84-83 with 5.6 seconds remaining. But Oweh’s late heroics saved the day once again.
Kentucky shot 51.7% from the field, including 63.9% inside the arc. Koby Brea added 22 points, hitting 4-of-7 from deep, while Andrew Carr contributed 11 points. However, late-game turnovers nearly cost the Wildcats, as they committed three in the final 1:16 against Oklahoma’s press.
On the other side, Oklahoma scored efficiently, putting up 84 points on 56.8% shooting from two and 36% from three. Star freshman Jeremiah Fears led the Sooners with 28 points, while Jalon Moore added 12, though he struggled from the field. Despite a furious comeback, Oklahoma fell short in the final seconds.
With the win, Kentucky moves on to face Alabama in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals. The Wildcats will need to clean up their late-game execution, but if Oweh continues his clutch performances, they’ll have a shot to keep their championship hopes alive.
