Otega Oweh proved to be the hero once again, delivering a game-winning layup in the final second to propel (6) Kentucky past (14) Oklahoma, 85-84, in the SEC Tournament’s second round. This victory, Kentucky’s first in the SEC Tournament since 2022, showcased resilience as the Wildcats overcame late-game turnovers and the absence of key player Lamont Butler, who reaggravated a shoulder injury early in the game.
Oweh led Kentucky with 27 points, marking yet another outstanding performance against his former team. His buzzer-beater secured Kentucky’s advancement to face (3) Alabama in the quarterfinals. Koby Brea also contributed significantly with 22 points, while Brandon Garrison and Trent Noah provided crucial plays to keep the Wildcats afloat during tense moments.
Head coach Mark Pope praised the team’s grit, highlighting Oweh’s ability to bounce back after late turnovers. “This moment is special because it shows the resilience and focus of our guys,” Pope said postgame.
The Wildcats face a quick turnaround as they prepare for their third matchup against Alabama, with tipoff set for Friday night at 9:30 p.m. EST in Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena.
