The Florida Gators are among the top contenders for Washington State transfer guard Cedric Coward, who has emerged as a standout player in the NCAA Transfer Portal. According to On3’s Joe Tipton, Coward has narrowed his options to five schools: Florida, Alabama, Duke, Kansas, and Washington. Additionally, Coward is still considering declaring for the 2025 NBA Draft.
Standing at 6-foot-6, Coward has had a strong collegiate career despite a limited appearance last season due to injury. In the 2024-25 season, he played in just six games but averaged 17.7 points, 7 rebounds, and 3.7 assists while shooting an impressive 55.7% from the field. Previously, he played for Eastern Washington and D-III Willamette before transferring to Washington State, where he developed into one of the most sought-after players in the transfer portal.
Coward has appeared in 73 college games so far, with an average of 12 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game. He has shown remarkable accuracy, shooting 59% from the field and 38.6% from three-point range. His skills make him one of the top players in the transfer portal, ranking No. 7 among shooting guards and No. 17 overall in On3’s portal rankings.
This recruitment follows last year’s successful transfer for the Gators, where they added Washington State’s Rueben Chinyelu. Chinyelu played a key role in the Gators’ national championship-winning campaign, and Coward could potentially make a similar impact.
As Coward continues to weigh his options, the Gators are hopeful that he will join their program, bolstering their lineup with his versatile scoring and rebounding ability. His decision will be a key development for Florida’s future as they look to build on their recent successes.
Stay tuned for updates as Coward’s recruitment unfolds, and whether the Gators will land another crucial piece for the 2025 season.
