The Florida Gators are making moves once again. Head coach Todd Golden is finalizing a deal to bring on Dave Klatsky, the highly successful head coach from New York University, as the newest member of his coaching staff.
Klatsky, 44, has spent the past three seasons at NYU, a Division III powerhouse. During his tenure, he led the Violets to a 68-16 record, three NCAA Tournament appearances, and back-to-back UAA titles. His most impressive season came in 2024-25, when he guided NYU to a 29-2 record and a No. 1 national ranking, ultimately reaching the Division III championship game.
Known for his basketball IQ and strong leadership, Klatsky brings a winning pedigree and fresh energy to Gainesville. His addition fills the gap left by Kevin Hovde, who recently accepted the head coaching job at Columbia after three seasons on Golden’s staff.
The hire has deeper ties to the Florida program—Klatsky is a first cousin, once removed, of former walk-on guard Alex Klatsky, who played for the Gators from 2019 to 2024. He’s also the brother-in-law of Hovde, adding a family connection to the coaching transition.
Golden has also promoted Jonathan Safir, previously the director of basketball strategy and analytics, to assistant coach following the departure of John Andrzejek, who is now head coach at Campbell.
“We’re going to miss those guys a lot,” Golden said of Hovde and Andrzejek, “but I’m excited about the new energy and continuity we’re bringing in. Dave is a sharp mind and a proven winner.”
The Gators, fresh off a national title, are keeping their foot on the gas. Klatsky’s hire is yet another signal that Florida is serious about sustained success, blending proven coaching experience with a fresh perspective.
