Jackson Prep’s standout junior Kevin Roberts Jr. has officially announced his verbal commitment to play baseball for the University of Florida. The news broke on Sunday when Roberts, ranked as the nation’s eighth-best high school baseball player by Perfect Game, shared his decision via social media.
“Grateful for the journey, the lessons, and God’s guidance through it all,” Roberts wrote. “Humbled to announce my commitment to the University of Florida. All glory to Him! Go Gators!”
Roberts’ commitment to Florida is a significant victory for the Gators, as the talented two-way athlete had narrowed his choices to include other top-tier programs such as Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and Texas A&M. However, his path to Gainesville is not set in stone; Roberts is widely regarded as a high prospect for the 2026 MLB Draft and could choose to go pro straight out of high school.
Roberts’ junior season has further solidified his reputation as an elite player. With a .413 batting average, two home runs, 14 RBIs, and a .470 on-base percentage, Roberts has been instrumental in Jackson Prep’s continued dominance. He has already contributed to two state championships and is aiming for a third this year, with Jackson Prep poised to contend for its eighth consecutive MAIS 6A title.
Beyond the baseball diamond, Roberts is a multisport sensation. He has earned all-state honors in basketball and has competed in track and field, showcasing his incredible athletic versatility.
