BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech men’s basketball has bolstered its roster with the addition of Jailen Bedford, a talented 6-foot-4 guard transferring from UNLV. Head coach Mike Young announced the signing, highlighting Bedford’s impressive skill set and leadership as key assets for the Hokies’ upcoming 2025-26 season.
“We’re thrilled to have Jailen join the Hokies,” said Young. “His journey to this point has shaped him into a resilient and dynamic player. Jailen really came on strong toward the end of the season for UNLV, and we believe his skillset and leadership will be invaluable to us this upcoming season.”
Bedford, with one season of eligibility remaining, brings a wealth of experience to Blacksburg. At UNLV, he averaged 10.2 points and 4.3 rebounds per game, ranking third on the team in both categories. He played in all 33 games, starting eight, and showcased a knack for clutch performances. Bedford scored in double figures in 10 of the Runnin’ Rebels’ final 11 games, including a standout 17-point effort against NCAA tournament participant Colorado State.
His season-high 20 points came on December 7 against BIG EAST powerhouse Creighton, a testament to his ability to deliver in high-pressure matchups. Across the season, Bedford posted 20 double-digit scoring games, proving his consistency as a reliable offensive contributor.
Before joining UNLV, Bedford began his collegiate career at Trinidad State, where he averaged 16.6 points per game and earned first-team all-tournament honors. His performance helped lead the team to the Region 9 Championships. Bedford then transferred to Oral Roberts for the 2023-24 season, continuing his strong play with averages of 14.6 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.
With Bedford’s arrival, the Hokies have secured their third transfer this offseason, joining Amani Hansberry (West Virginia) and Izaiah Pasha (Delaware). This trio of transfers aims to strengthen Virginia Tech’s roster as the team looks to make significant strides in the competitive ACC.
Bedford’s dynamic scoring ability, combined with his experience and leadership, is expected to be a key component of the Hokies’ success in the upcoming season. Fans can look forward to seeing his impact on the court as Virginia Tech continues to build a formidable team.
