LEXINGTON, KY – The legacy of Kentucky basketball continues to shine brightly in the NBA, as two of the program’s most illustrious alumni, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Karl-Anthony Towns, have earned coveted spots on the All-NBA teams for their remarkable performances during the 2024-25 season.

Gilgeous-Alexander, the Oklahoma City Thunder’s dynamic guard, was named to the All-NBA First Team, an accolade that cements his status as one of the league’s elite. This marks a significant milestone for the former Wildcat, who has dazzled fans and analysts alike with his scoring prowess, playmaking ability, and defensive tenacity. Averaging an impressive 31.4 points, 7.2 assists, and 6.0 rebounds per game this season, Gilgeous-Alexander has led the Thunder to a playoff berth, showcasing his ability to elevate his team on the biggest stages.

Reflecting on his achievement, Gilgeous-Alexander credited his time at Kentucky for molding him into the player he is today. “The lessons I learned in Lexington—both on and off the court—have been instrumental in my journey. This honor is as much for Big Blue Nation as it is for me,” he said.

Meanwhile, Karl-Anthony Towns, the versatile center for the Minnesota Timberwolves, secured a spot on the All-NBA Third Team. Known for his ability to stretch the floor and dominate in the post, Towns delivered a stellar season, averaging 25.3 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game. His leadership and consistency were pivotal in guiding the Timberwolves to one of their most successful seasons in recent memory.

“It’s always a blessing to be recognized at this level,” Towns shared. “Kentucky taught me to dream big and work hard, and this honor reflects that mindset.”

The dual recognition of Gilgeous-Alexander and Towns underscores the University of Kentucky’s reputation as a powerhouse for developing NBA talent. Head coach Mark Pope expressed pride in their accomplishments, noting, “Shai and Karl embody what it means to be Wildcats. Their dedication, humility, and excellence continue to inspire our current players and future recruits.”

With these accolades, Gilgeous-Alexander and Towns join a long list of Kentucky alumni who have made an indelible mark on the NBA, further solidifying the program’s legacy as a breeding ground for greatness. Big Blue Nation celebrates this latest chapter in its storied basketball history, eagerly anticipating even more success from its NBA stars.
