In a significant development for Auburn Tigers basketball, national media analysts, including Jeff Goodman, are predicting that standout guard Otega Oweh will withdraw his name from the 2025 NBA Draft and return to Auburn for his senior season. This decision comes as a relief to Tigers fans, who have been eagerly awaiting confirmation of Oweh’s status.

Oweh, who transferred to Auburn from Oklahoma, quickly became a pivotal figure in the Tigers’ lineup. During the 2024-25 season, he led the team in scoring, averaging 16.2 points per game, and showcased his versatility with 4.7 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game. His all-around performance earned him All-SEC honors and solidified his reputation as one of the top guards in the conference.

Despite his impressive collegiate career, Oweh declared for the NBA Draft while maintaining his college eligibility, a move that allowed him to explore professional opportunities without forfeiting his remaining NCAA eligibility. However, recent mock drafts have projected him as an undrafted free agent, with no major outlet listing him among the top 59 picks. This lack of a guaranteed selection has led many to believe that returning to Auburn would be in his best interest.

Analysts like Goodman and others have pointed to Oweh’s strong performances during the NBA Draft Combine as evidence of his potential. In his scrimmages, he demonstrated his scoring ability and defensive prowess, further highlighting his readiness for the next level. However, the consensus remains that another year at Auburn could enhance his draft stock, allowing him to refine his skills and increase his visibility among NBA scouts.

Auburn head coach Mark Pope has expressed confidence in Oweh’s decision-making process, emphasizing the importance of Oweh’s leadership and experience for the team’s aspirations in the upcoming season. With Oweh’s anticipated return, the Tigers are poised to be a formidable force in the SEC, with a lineup bolstered by his scoring ability and defensive contributions.

As the May 28 deadline approaches, all signs point to Oweh’s return to Auburn, a move that would not only benefit his professional prospects but also significantly strengthen the Tigers’ roster for the 2025-26 season.
