Tennessee Basketball has added a familiar face with deep Volunteer roots to its coaching staff — Amorrow Morgan, a West Tennessee native and lifelong fan of the program, is officially joining head coach Rick Barnes’ team as an assistant coach.

Morgan brings experience, energy, and a personal connection to Rocky Top. After coaching stops at institutions including Loyola Chicago, South Alabama, and most recently Florida State, the Memphis native is back where his heart has always been. “This is the quickest move I’ve made in my career,” Morgan admitted. “But when a Hall of Famer calls, a smart man just ups and goes — especially someone like me who grew up loving this program.”

The opportunity to return to his home state and serve a program he’s long admired is not lost on Morgan. “This is a dream come true. I’ve always been a Tennessee fan,” he said during his introductory press conference. “I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to return to my home state and contribute to the continued success of Volunteer basketball. Go Big Orange!”

Morgan has already made strong first impressions with both the players and staff. He praised the team’s discipline and drive, saying, “Every time I walk in here at Pratt Pavilion, someone’s in the gym. They’re all hungry and coming in with the right mindset. That’s what you want to see.”

He also spoke highly of head coach Rick Barnes, describing him as “hilarious, loving, and demanding — in the best way.” Morgan sees working under Barnes as a chance to learn from one of the most respected coaches in the game. “Coach Barnes is one of the greatest of all time. I’m here to be a sponge and do whatever it takes to help this program grow and succeed.”

Known for his recruiting acumen and player development skills, Morgan is expected to be an asset both on and off the court. His ties to the state and experience at various competitive levels make him a perfect fit for a team with championship aspirations.

With Morgan’s passion and energy now on the sidelines, Tennessee Basketball gains not only a coach but a lifelong Volunteer ready to help lead the program to new heights.
