Jayden Quaintance, a standout freshman transfer from Arizona State, has made waves at Kentucky by recreating Anthony Davis’ iconic wingspan photo. Originally taken during Davis’ historic 2012 season, the black-and-white image showcased his remarkable 7-foot-6 wingspan, spanning 10 UK basketballs. Davis would go on to win National Player of the Year and lead Kentucky to its eighth national championship.
Now, Quaintance is drawing comparisons to Davis as he begins his career with the Wildcats. The 17-year-old phenom, known for his athleticism and defensive prowess, was a major portal acquisition by new head coach Mark Pope. At Arizona State during the 2024–25 season, Quaintance earned Big 12 All-Freshman and All-Defensive Team honors, averaging 9.4 points, 7.9 rebounds, 2.6 blocks, and 1.5 assists per game. Notably, he was the youngest player in college basketball that year.
Quaintance joined Kentucky in April and is currently rehabbing from a torn ACL sustained in February, followed by surgery in March. During his early days in Lexington, he spotted Davis’ poster on the wall and decided to emulate the legendary photo himself. With a 7-foot-5 wingspan—just one inch shy of Davis’—Quaintance’s version of the photo is a nod to Kentucky’s rich basketball history and a tease of his potential defensive dominance.
Despite the injury, expectations are high. Coach Pope praised Quaintance’s explosiveness and skill, emphasizing his untapped potential given his age. As fans eagerly anticipate his Kentucky debut later this season, the recreated image serves as both a tribute and a promise of what’s to come. The Big Blue Nation hopes Quaintance will follow in Davis’ footsteps and bring similar glory to the program.
