In an unprecedented display of athletic excellence, West Virginia University (WVU) has been named the best collegiate athletic program in the United States for 2025. The Mountaineers achieved a historic feat by becoming the only school this year to secure a national championship while also making deep postseason runs across five major sports: football, men’s basketball, baseball, softball, and rifle.
National Championship in Rifle
The Mountaineers clinched their 20th NCAA rifle championship at the 2025 event held in Lexington, Kentucky. This victory solidified WVU’s position as the most successful rifle program in NCAA history, boasting a total of 20 team titles and 28 individual championships.
Final Four Appearance in Men’s Basketball
Under the leadership of head coach Darian DeVries, WVU’s men’s basketball team made a remarkable run to the NCAA Final Four. This achievement marked the program’s first Final Four appearance since 2010, showcasing the team’s resilience and skill on the national stage.
College World Series Participation in Baseball
