Iconic and Legendary Ex-WVU WR Tavon Austin Announces Stunning Return to Mountaineers Program in a Groundbreaking Comeback

In a shocking and electrifying announcement that has sent ripples through the college football world, Tavon Austin, one of the most iconic and beloved players in West Virginia University (WVU) Mountaineers history, has confirmed his return to the program in a bold and groundbreaking comeback. Known for his unmatched speed, game-breaking agility, and unforgettable performances during his collegiate years, Austin’s return marks a monumental moment for WVU fans and alumni alike.

Austin, who lit up the college football scene from 2009 to 2012, is remembered for redefining what it meant to be an all-purpose threat. His jaw-dropping 572 all-purpose yards against Oklahoma in 2012 remains one of the most legendary performances in NCAA history. Now, after nearly a decade in the NFL—where he played for teams like the Rams, Cowboys, and Jaguars—Austin is coming full circle.

But what exactly does this “return” mean?

Sources close to the program reveal that Austin won’t be suiting up as a player—NCAA rules and his age make that unlikely—but he’s reportedly joining the Mountaineers football staff in a high-impact, multifaceted role. This may include mentoring wide receivers, assisting in special teams strategy, and serving as an ambassador for the program’s recruiting and alumni outreach.

“Tavon’s return is bigger than football,” said WVU head coach Neal Brown in a statement. “He represents the heart, spirit, and explosive energy that define Mountaineer football. Having him back with us in any capacity elevates our culture and inspires our current players.”

Austin expressed his excitement in a heartfelt video posted to social media: “WVU made me who I am. Now it’s time to give back to the place that gave me everything. Let’s bring that energy back to Morgantown.”

Fans are already buzzing with anticipation. Social media has exploded with highlights of Austin’s college days, and #TavonReturns began trending nationally within minutes of the announcement.

While he may no longer be torching defenders on the field, Tavon Austin’s presence on the sidelines promises to inject a new level of enthusiasm, experience, and Mountaineer pride into the program. His return is more than symbolic—it’s a rallying cry for a new era of WVU football, one rooted in tradition, passion, and game-changing talent.
