USA Baseball has unveiled the three finalists for the prestigious Golden Spikes Award, an honor recognizing the nation’s top amateur baseball player. The finalists for the 47th edition are Arkansas shortstop Wehiwa Aloy, Tennessee left-hander Liam Doyle, and Florida State shortstop Alex Lodise. The winner will be announced on June 21 on ESPN, just before the opening game of the Men’s College World Series finals.
Meet the Finalists
Wehiwa Aloy – Arkansas Shortstop
Aloy has electrified the college baseball scene with his stellar performance for the Razorbacks. The junior from Wailuku, Hawaii, boasts an impressive .355/.440/.686 slash line with 20 home runs and 64 RBIs across 59 games. His achievements have earned him the title of Southeastern Conference Player of the Year. Aloy is projected as the 25th pick in the MLB Draft, underscoring his potential at the next level.
Liam Doyle – Tennessee Left-Handed Pitcher
Doyle, the SEC Pitcher of the Year, has been the ace for Tennessee. Leading the nation in strikeouts (158) and strikeouts per nine innings (15.5), Doyle has a 10-3 record and a 2.84 ERA over 18 appearances. His dominance on the mound has solidified his spot as the ninth pick in the upcoming draft and a key figure in Tennessee’s postseason aspirations.
Alex Lodise – Florida State Shortstop
Lodise has enjoyed a breakout season, earning ACC Player of the Year honors. Ranking among the nation’s top players in hits (92), batting average (.405), and total bases (167), Lodise’s offensive prowess has been a game-changer. He made history with a walk-off grand slam to complete the cycle on March 25, one of his five game-winning hits this season. Draft analysts rank him 45th overall, but his performances suggest he could climb higher.
Path to Glory
All three finalists have led their teams to the NCAA Super Regionals, further showcasing their impact on the college stage. Their accolades highlight the depth of talent in college baseball this year.
