In a significant boost to the University of Oklahoma’s softball program, head coach Patty Gasso has announced the commitment of elite pitcher Sophia Bordi. Hailing from Merchantville, New Jersey, Bordi is recognized as one of the nation’s top pitching prospects and is set to join the Sooners’ top-ranked 2025 recruiting class.
Bordi’s high school career at Haddon Heights High School was marked by exceptional achievements, including being a two-time Gatorade New Jersey Player of the Year. She led her team to consecutive state championships, delivering standout performances such as a 20-strikeout no-hitter as a freshman and a 16-strikeout perfect game as a sophomore. Her prowess extends beyond the mound; she is also a formidable hitter, bringing power from the right side.
In a move that underscores her commitment and ambition, Bordi reclassified to graduate high school early and enrolled at Oklahoma ahead of the 2025 season. This early enrollment is uncommon in softball and reflects both her dedication and the program’s confidence in her potential. While she is expected to redshirt this season to acclimate and develop, Gasso has indicated that Bordi could be called upon if necessary, stating, “If we had an emergency, break the glass, bring in Sophia.”
Bordi’s addition is part of a stellar recruiting class that includes top talents from across the country, reinforcing Oklahoma’s position as a powerhouse in collegiate softball. Gasso, who has led the Sooners to multiple national championships, expressed her enthusiasm about the incoming class, noting that it represents “one of the most athletic and powerful recruiting classes we have ever assembled.”
As the Sooners transition into the Southeastern Conference, the inclusion of a player of Bordi’s caliber is poised to make a significant impact. Her early integration into the team, combined with her impressive track record, positions her as a key figure in the program’s future successes.
