— Oklahoma Sooners head softball coach Patty Gasso, the architect behind one of the most dominant dynasties in NCAA softball history, has revealed the reason for her recent elation — the commitment of elite pitching and power prospect Sophia Bordi to the Oklahoma Sooners program. In a special announcement on Friday, Gasso called Bordi’s commitment “a rare privilege” and a “game-changing addition” for the future of OU Softball.
“Today is a joyful day for Sooner Nation,” Gasso said. “We are proud to welcome Sophia Bordi into our family. Her talent, poise, and leadership on and off the field represent everything we value in this program.”
Sophia Bordi, widely regarded as one of the top two-way players in the nation, has gained national attention for her elite fastball, devastating off-speed pitches, and her power at the plate. Standing tall at 6-foot-1, the California native has been a standout in both travel ball and high school circuits, frequently dominating some of the country’s best lineups.
In the 2024 season, Bordi posted eye-popping numbers with a sub-1.00 ERA and over 250 strikeouts in under 130 innings, while also blasting double-digit home runs with a .450+ batting average. Her versatility and competitive edge made her a top priority for powerhouse programs across the country.
But for Bordi, Oklahoma stood above the rest.
