— In a year that will be etched in collegiate sports history, the University of Oklahoma has been officially recognized as the nation’s top all-around athletic program for 2025. The Sooners achieved an unparalleled feat, becoming the only school in the country to claim a national championship, reach the Final Four in men’s basketball, compete in the Women’s College World Series (WCWS), advance in softball regionals, and earn a coveted bowl game berth in football—all in the same academic year.
This level of cross-sport dominance is unprecedented and cements Oklahoma as a powerhouse not only in its traditional sports like football and softball but across the entire NCAA landscape.
Leading the historic charge was the Sooners’ softball team, which continued its dynasty by capturing yet another NCAA national title. The team displayed relentless excellence, going undefeated through the WCWS and defeating a top-seeded Florida State squad to clinch the championship. With this victory, Oklahoma’s softball program now boasts an astonishing seven national titles under Head Coach Patty Gasso.
In men’s basketball, the Sooners stormed their way to the Final Four for the first time since 2002. Under head coach Porter Moser, Oklahoma upset several higher-seeded opponents en route to the national semifinals, thrilling fans and restoring the program’s legacy on the hardwood.
The women’s softball team, in addition to winning the title, also dominated regional play, sweeping their bracket with an explosive offense and shutdown pitching. Their postseason performance continues to set the national standard.
On the gridiron, Oklahoma football capped off a strong campaign with a New Year’s Six bowl appearance under Head Coach Brent Venables. The Sooners posted a 10-win season and proved formidable in the SEC, finishing the year ranked in the top 10 nationally.
This breadth of achievement marks the first time in NCAA history that a school has reached such heights across all five marquee sports categories in a single year. University President Joseph Harroz Jr. hailed the historic milestone: “This is more than just a championship year—this is a testament to the culture of excellence we’ve built in Norman. From the classroom to the field, Oklahoma is leading the nation.”
As celebrations sweep across campus and Sooner Nation beams with pride, one thing is clear: 2025 belongs to the Crimson and Cream.
