Michigan State basketball has landed a major addition to its roster and future with the signing of 6-foot-10, 220-pound standout Carson Cooper, a high school phenom who played his last season at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. Cooper’s decision to join the Spartans includes a $4 million Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deal, signaling the growing influence of NIL opportunities in college sports and solidifying Michigan State’s reputation as a premier destination for top talent.

    A Rising Star

Originally from Jackson, Michigan, Cooper honed his skills locally before transferring to IMG Academy, where he flourished under elite coaching and competition. His impressive performance in national tournaments and showcases earned him recognition as one of the most promising big men in the class of 2026. Known for his mobility, shot-blocking ability, and a polished offensive game, Cooper’s versatility makes him a perfect fit for Michigan State’s system under legendary coach Tom Izzo.

    NIL Era’s Impact

The $4 million NIL deal, one of the largest for an incoming freshman in college basketball, highlights Cooper’s marketability both on and off the court. Industry experts attribute the lucrative agreement to his exceptional skillset, maturity, and potential to become a household name in basketball. The deal also underscores Michigan State’s robust NIL infrastructure, which has successfully connected athletes with opportunities that align with their personal and professional goals.

“This isn’t just about basketball,” Cooper said in a statement. “It’s about becoming the best version of myself, on and off the court. Michigan State is the place where I can grow as a player and a person.”

    Michigan State’s Commitment to Excellence

Coach Tom Izzo, who has built Michigan State into a perennial powerhouse, expressed excitement about Cooper’s commitment.

“Carson is a special player with tremendous upside,” Izzo said. “He’s exactly the kind of person and athlete we want in our program. I can’t wait to see how he impacts our team and the Michigan State community.”

    A Bright Future

As the Spartans prepare for another season of high expectations, Cooper’s arrival adds to the team’s depth and future prospects. Fans are already buzzing about the potential lineup that could feature Cooper as a cornerstone.

With his blend of talent, charisma, and work ethic, Carson Cooper is poised to leave an indelible mark on Michigan State basketball—and beyond.
