Otega Oweh and Brandon Garrison, two key pillars of Kentucky basketball, recently opened up in their first offseason interviews since deciding to return to Lexington. The duo shared insights about their decision-making process, expectations for the upcoming season, and their evolving roles as leaders.
The Wildcats are gearing up for the 2025-26 season with renewed vigor after a Sweet 16 finish last year. With Oweh and Garrison anchoring the team, expectations are sky-high for Coach Mark Pope’s second season.
Decisions to Return
Both players had legitimate chances to enter the NBA Draft but chose to return for another season in Kentucky blue. Oweh, a 6-foot-4 guard, emphasized his desire to grow as a player and leader.
“I want to refine my game and take it to the next level,” Oweh said. “We have unfinished business here, and I’m fully committed to making sure we achieve our goals this season.”
Garrison, a versatile big man, echoed similar sentiments. “It was about being part of something bigger. I want to leave my mark on this program and help us chase a national championship.”
Chemistry with New Teammates
The Wildcats welcome several fresh faces this season, including promising recruits Jayden Quaintance and Kam Williams. Oweh and Garrison praised the depth and talent of the roster.
“We have 14 guys that can play,” Oweh stated. “Every practice feels like a battle because the competition is that fierce. It’s only going to make us better.”
Garrison added, “This is one of the most complete teams I’ve been a part of. The newcomers are hungry, and the returnees know what it takes to succeed. The chemistry is building fast.”
Leadership and Expectations
Oweh and Garrison are stepping into leadership roles this season. Both players understand the responsibility of guiding a roster brimming with talent and ambition.
“We’re setting the tone in workouts and making sure everyone’s locked in,” Garrison said. “The expectations are clear: a national championship.”
With preseason rankings placing Kentucky in the top five, the Wildcats are poised for another deep run in March. Their leaders, Oweh and Garrison, are ready to carry the banner forward.
