— Former Nebraska volleyball standout and team captain Merritt Beason continues to elevate her game to the national level. Beason has been named one of 18 elite athletes selected to train with the U.S. Women’s Under-23 National Team ahead of the prestigious NORCECA U23 Pan American Cup, taking place July 25 through August 2 in Mexico.
The selection is a significant milestone in Beason’s career, further solidifying her as one of the nation’s rising volleyball talents. The Florida native, who transferred to Nebraska in 2023 and quickly became a cornerstone of the program, will now have the opportunity to compete for one of 12 coveted spots on the final roster that will represent Team USA in international competition.
Beason’s journey to this point has been marked by leadership, resilience, and excellence. As Nebraska’s team captain, she played a pivotal role in guiding the Huskers to deep postseason runs and earned multiple All-Big Ten honors. Known for her powerful attacking, strategic court vision, and commanding presence, she has earned respect not only from her teammates and coaches but also from the broader volleyball community.
“It’s such an honor to be chosen to train with the U23 national team,” Beason said. “Wearing the USA jersey has always been a dream, and I’m excited to work with such an incredible group of athletes and coaches. I’m ready to compete, learn, and give it everything I’ve got.”
The U.S. training camp will be held in Anaheim, California, where the team will spend several weeks preparing. From the 18-player pool, only 12 will ultimately be selected to compete in the NORCECA (North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation) U23 Pan American Cup, an event that features the best emerging talent from across the Americas.
USA Volleyball officials praised the quality and competitiveness of this year’s training group, noting that players like Beason bring not only elite skill but also valuable collegiate leadership experience.
