In a powerful display of enduring loyalty and vision, Hall of Fame coach Mike Krzyzewski has pledged $5 million to fund a state-of-the-art training facility for Duke University’s basketball program, igniting excitement across the college basketball world. The legendary coach, who led Duke to five NCAA titles before retiring in 2022, unveiled plans this morning alongside current head coach Jon Scheyer and Duke athletic officials.

Dubbed the Krzyzewski Performance Center, the 50,000-square-foot facility will feature cutting-edge sports science labs, immersive virtual reality training suites, a nutrition and recovery center, and an AI-driven performance analytics hub. Construction is set to begin in fall 2025, with completion projected for the start of the 2026–27 season.

“This isn’t just about bricks and technology,” Krzyzewski said during the announcement ceremony held at Cameron Indoor Stadium. “It’s about culture. It’s about giving these young men every tool they need to be champions—not just on the court, but in life. This program built me, and now I want to help build what’s next.”

Coach K’s donation marks one of the largest single gifts ever made to Duke Athletics by a former coach and signals his continued investment in the university’s basketball legacy. While he has remained active behind the scenes since retirement, this public gesture marks a new era of involvement.

Current head coach Jon Scheyer, who played under Krzyzewski from 2006–2010 and succeeded him on the sidelines, called the facility “a game-changer.”

“This gift will allow us to recruit at an even higher level, train smarter, recover better, and continue pushing the boundaries of excellence,” said Scheyer. “Coach K built the foundation. Now we’ll raise the ceiling.”

The Krzyzewski Performance Center will be located adjacent to the historic Cameron Indoor Stadium, creating a centralized hub for the men’s and women’s basketball programs. In addition to physical amenities, the center will also include leadership development spaces and a “Legacy Room” featuring Duke’s rich basketball history.

Fans and alumni have already begun flooding social media with praise, calling the announcement “vintage Coach K” and a “blue-blood move for a blue-blood program.”

As for Krzyzewski himself, his goal is simple: “We’re not done. I believe Duke can dominate the next decade—and this is just the start.
