Today, I want to take a moment—not as a coach, but as a father, a son, and someone who’s been blessed to walk this incredible journey with many great men by my side.
Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers, grandfathers, stepdads, mentors, and father-figures who are part of our Spartan Nation. Whether you’re in the stands at the Breslin Center, cheering from home, or guiding your children through the ups and downs of life—you matter, and you’re appreciated more than you know.
Fathers are our first coaches. They teach us how to get up when we fall, how to respect the game, and how to live with discipline, purpose, and heart. The lessons I’ve carried into every locker room—about toughness, integrity, sacrifice, and love—came first from my father, and I see that same legacy being lived out in so many of you.
Here at Michigan State, we talk about family a lot. It’s not just a motto—it’s a culture. I see it every time a player’s father shows up early to practice just to sit and watch. I see it in the way our players speak about the men who raised them—with gratitude and pride. And I see it in the way Spartan dads support this program year after year—through highs, lows, and buzzer-beaters.
To the fathers raising the next generation of Spartans, your role matters far beyond the court. Your guidance builds character. Your encouragement fuels dreams. And your love provides a foundation stronger than any playbook.
On behalf of myself, our coaching staff, and the entire Michigan State basketball family, thank you for being the rock your families rely on, and thank you for being part of ours.
So today, take the time to put your feet up. Watch a game. Grill something good. Hug your kids. Or call your dad if you’re lucky enough to still have that chance. And know that we celebrate you—not just today, but every day.
Happy Father’s Day, Spartan dads. You are champions in every way that counts.
Go Green. Go White.
