In a stunning and heartwarming announcement, Auburn University men’s basketball coach Bruce Pearl and his wife, Brandy Pearl, have pledged to donate the entirety of Bruce’s 2025–26 season salary and all sponsorship earnings to local charities and homeless aid organizations throughout Alabama.
The move, which experts are calling one of the most generous philanthropic gestures in NCAA history, is expected to total over $6 million by the end of the season. The Pearls made the announcement at a press conference Monday morning, standing in front of Auburn Arena alongside community leaders and representatives from several nonprofit groups.
“This is about giving back to a community that’s given so much to us,” said Pearl, who has served as Auburn’s head coach since 2014 and has led the Tigers to multiple NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Final Four run. “We see families every day who are struggling to keep the lights on, to put food on the table, or to find shelter. Brandy and I just felt like it was time to stop asking what more we could do—and start doing it.”
The Pearls’ donation will be divided among several initiatives, including transitional housing programs, youth mentorship organizations, food insecurity initiatives, and mental health services for the homeless. A newly established foundation—The Pearl Promise—will manage the distribution of funds, ensuring transparency and long-term sustainability.
Brandy Pearl, who has long been involved with regional nonprofits, described the decision as deeply personal.
“We’ve been blessed beyond what we ever imagined,” she said. “But we walk the same streets as people who are hurting, and we can’t ignore that. This is not just about money—it’s about hope, opportunity, and dignity.”
The NCAA, though historically neutral on coach earnings and personal charitable efforts, released a statement praising the Pearls’ “extraordinary leadership and commitment to community.”
Auburn University President Christopher Roberts also expressed admiration. “Bruce and Brandy exemplify what it means to lead with purpose. This act of generosity will change lives across the state.”
Players and fans have taken to social media with an outpouring of support, many using the hashtag #PearlPromise to share their thoughts.
As the Tigers prepare for what promises to be another thrilling season, Coach Pearl’s greatest assist this year may not happen on the court—but in the hearts and homes of those who need it most.
