In a move that has Hokie Nation buzzing with pride, NFL Hall of Famer and Virginia Tech legend Bruce Smith has made a monumental donation to his alma materโtwo custom-designed, luxury motorcoaches that are already being hailed as the new gold standard in collegiate travel.
Nicknamed โThe Rolling Sandmanโ and โEnter Sandman II,โ the twin luxury buses were unveiled this morning at a special ceremony outside Lane Stadium. The sleek, black-and-maroon vehicles are emblazoned with chrome Hokie Birds, LED-lit interiors, reclining massage chairs, 8K entertainment screens, onboard recovery stations, and even a sound system capable of blasting โEnter Sandmanโ loud enough to shake a stadium.
โThis is how champions travel,โ Bruce Smith declared as he cut the ceremonial maroon ribbon, flanked by Head Coach Brent Pry and University President Tim Sands. โThis is about giving our athletes every advantageโstarting from the moment they step on the bus. I wanted to give them something that shows what excellence looks like, and how it should feel.โ
Coach Pry was visibly emotional during the event. โBruce has always been a fierce competitor, but even more than that, heโs always been a Hokie through and through. These buses arenโt just ridesโtheyโre statements. Statements that weโre building something elite here.โ
The buses will be used by Virginia Tech football, basketball, and Olympic sport teams for regional travel, recruiting trips, and select community engagement events. Each coach features high-end amenities such as nutrition stations, film study suites, and even a small VR film room for immersive play reviews on the go.
โThis isnโt just a giftโitโs a game-changer,โ said Athletic Director Whit Babcock. โWith this kind of vision and support, weโre setting the tone for what it means to be Virginia Tech.โ
Fans will get their first chance to see the Rolling Sandman in action this fall as the Hokies roll into Huntington, WV to face Marshall. In typical Bruce Smith fashion, expect the buses to arrive with the energy of a defensive blitz and the swagger of a national contender.
