As the NBA Draft approaches, analysts and fans alike are buzzing with predictions, projections, and possibilities. One voice that carries significant weight during this season is that of ESPN’s longtime basketball analyst, Jay Bilas. Known for his keen insights and no-nonsense evaluations, Bilas has turned his attention to the University of Kentucky — a powerhouse program that consistently churns out NBA-ready talent.

This year, however, the narrative is slightly different. According to Bilas, while Kentucky may not have any projected lottery picks, two of their Wildcats are likely to hear their names called during the second round of the draft. It’s a modest prediction compared to the program’s usual first-round dominance, but it still speaks volumes about Kentucky’s continued relevance in player development.

Though Bilas hasn’t officially named the two players, speculation suggests that guards like Antonio Reeves and forward Tre Mitchell are among the top candidates. Both players showed flashes of brilliance during the 2024–25 NCAA season, contributing leadership, scoring, and experience to a young Kentucky roster that faced stiff SEC competition.

Reeves, in particular, stood out with his perimeter shooting and ability to create offense under pressure — qualities that could attract teams looking for depth at the wing or backup shooting guard position. Mitchell, on the other hand, offers versatility as a big man who can stretch the floor, rebound, and defend multiple positions.

Bilas emphasized that while second-round picks may not receive the same hype or guaranteed contracts as first-rounders, the opportunity is still massive. “It’s not about where you start,” Bilas recently said on ESPN’s NBA Draft Preview Special. “It’s about fit, work ethic, and development. We’ve seen second-round guys like Draymond Green and Nikola Jokić turn into All-Stars and MVPs.”

For Kentucky’s fanbase, the focus might now shift from counting lottery picks to celebrating steady progression. Coach John Calipari’s system has always prepared players for the NBA, regardless of when they’re drafted. With the right mindset and a little patience, Kentucky’s next pro stars might just emerge from round two — just as Jay Bilas predicts.

As draft night nears, all eyes will be on the second round, where hidden gems are waiting to be unearthed — and the Wildcats are well-positioned to make their mark once again.
