Virginia Tech legend Michael Vick made a stunning return to campus this weekend during the university’s annual Homecoming celebration, where he surprised fans, students, and alumni alike with a game-changing gift: a $2.5 million custom luxury team bus donated to the Hokies baseball program.
The custom-built motorcoach — decked out in maroon and orange, emblazoned with the HokieBird and complete with the slogan “Built by Brotherhood” — is the first of its kind in collegiate baseball. Featuring sleeper cabins, a chef-grade kitchen, entertainment systems, massage chairs, and a fully equipped mobile training room, the bus is designed to give Virginia Tech baseball players an unmatched travel experience on and off the road.
“This program shaped me, not just as an athlete but as a man,” Vick said during a ceremony at English Field. “Football may have been my sport, but Virginia Tech is my home — and these athletes deserve the very best. I wanted to give them something that says, ‘You matter.’”
Though known best for his electrifying career as a quarterback at Tech and in the NFL, Vick’s generosity has extended across Hokie athletics in recent years. His latest gift was met with thunderous applause and emotional gratitude from coaches and players alike.
“This is not just a bus,” said head baseball coach John Szefc. “This is a message. A message to recruits, to our current guys, and to everyone in Hokie Nation — that we’re building something special here, and we have the full support of our greatest alumni.”
Vick toured the facility with members of the current roster and was honored on the field before the Homecoming football game against Georgia Tech. Fans gave him a standing ovation as the new team bus was unveiled in a pre-game parade down Beamer Way.
Students on campus are already calling the vehicle “The Vicktorious Ride.”
“I think it just shows the kind of impact Virginia Tech has on people,” said junior outfielder Kyle Ramos. “Michael Vick didn’t play baseball here, but he still believes in us. That’s powerful.”
As the Hokies gear up for what they hope will be a championship season, they’ll now travel in comfort and style — all thanks to one of the greatest Hokies of all time.
