In a major recruiting win for Nebraska football, four-star running back Jamal Rule announced his commitment to the Cornhuskers on Monday afternoon, choosing them over fellow finalists Michigan State and Virginia Tech.
Rule, a 5-foot-11, 205-pound standout from Peachtree Ridge High School in Georgia, made his announcement via a live stream on social media, donning a red Nebraska cap before declaring, “I’m taking my talents to Lincoln.”
Ranked as the No. 7 running back in the 2025 class and the No. 83 overall player nationally according to 247Sports, Rule is known for his explosive first step, powerful lower body, and uncanny ability to make defenders miss in the open field. In his junior season, he rushed for over 1,900 yards and 23 touchdowns, cementing himself as one of the most dynamic backs in the Southeast.
“I felt like Nebraska was where I could be part of something special,” Rule said in an interview following his announcement. “Coach Rhule and Coach Applewhite made it clear that I’d be a key part of their offensive vision from day one. The energy in Lincoln is different. It feels like home.”
Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule praised Rule’s decision on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “Jamal is not just a game-changer on the field, he’s a leader off of it. We’re building something big here — and Jamal just made it bigger. Go Big Red!”
Rule took official visits to all three of his finalists this spring, but sources close to his recruitment say Nebraska separated itself early with its family atmosphere, innovative offensive scheme, and clear path to early playing time.
Michigan State and Virginia Tech both made strong pushes late in the process, with the Spartans emphasizing their recent history of producing NFL-caliber backs and the Hokies pitching Rule as the centerpiece of a revitalized offense.
Still, Nebraska’s momentum under Rhule — along with a top-15 recruiting class and upgraded facilities — ultimately swayed Rule’s decision.
With Rule’s commitment, Nebraska adds a crucial piece to its 2025 class, which now includes three top-150 prospects. The Cornhuskers haven’t had a 1,000-yard rusher since 2018, but Rule may be just the talent to end that drought.
“He’s going to be a fan favorite in Lincoln,” said Rivals analyst Mike Farrell. “This is a statement get for Nebraska — and a big loss for the Big Ten East.”
