     — In a move that sent ripples through the college basketball world, five-star recruit Kelvin Savage Jr. has officially committed to Michigan State University. The 6’6” shooting guard out of Oak Hill Academy made the announcement Friday afternoon at a press conference attended by family, coaches, and national media.

Savage, who is widely regarded as one of the top players in the 2025 class, chose Michigan State over offers from powerhouse programs like Duke, Kentucky, and Kansas. His decision marks a major win for Spartans head coach Tom Izzo, who continues to demonstrate his recruiting prowess even after nearly three decades at the helm.

“We’ve been to a lot of campuses, but Michigan State stood out,” said Savage’s father, Kelvin Savage Sr., a former professional player who spent a decade playing overseas. “Coach Izzo treated my son like more than a player—he treated him like a person, a young man with a future beyond basketball.”

That sentiment, echoed by both father and son, was central to Kelvin Jr.’s decision.

“I’ve dreamed about this moment my whole life,” said the younger Savage. “But when I visited Michigan State, it wasn’t just about basketball. Coach Izzo talked to me about leadership, education, and how I can grow into a man. That really stuck with me. It felt like home.”

Savage Jr. is known for his explosive athleticism, silky jump shot, and high basketball IQ. Averaging 25.2 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game during his senior season, he led Oak Hill to a national championship and was named a McDonald’s All-American.

Izzo, who was present at the press conference, spoke glowingly of his newest recruit.

“Kelvin is the kind of player who can change a program,” Izzo said. “But more importantly, he’s the kind of young man who will represent Michigan State with pride, on and off the court.”

With Savage’s commitment, Michigan State’s 2025 recruiting class now ranks among the top three in the nation, signaling a potential return to Final Four form for the Spartans.

As Savage put it simply while donning a green and white MSU cap: “I’m ready to be a Spartan.”
