— In an inspiring act of selflessness, Auburn University basketball guard Zep Jasper has pledged to donate 100% of his earnings from the upcoming season—including his salary, sponsorships, and endorsement deals—to local and national charities. The senior guard made the announcement Monday morning in a heartfelt post on social media, stating, “The money I earn this season isn’t just about me; it’s about making a positive impact on the community.”
This remarkable gesture is already making waves in the college basketball world, and it comes at a time when name, image, and likeness (NIL) deals have given student-athletes unprecedented earning power. Jasper, known for his defensive prowess and leadership both on and off the court, is redirecting the attention and influence that come with these opportunities toward something much greater.
“I’ve been incredibly blessed,” Jasper told reporters during a press conference at Auburn Arena. “This platform means nothing if I don’t use it to give back. Growing up, I saw firsthand how much even a little bit of help could change a person’s life. I want to be that help now.”
Jasper’s donation will benefit a variety of causes, including children’s education, mental health services, food insecurity initiatives, and support programs for underprivileged youth in the Southeast. He has partnered with several nonprofit organizations, including the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Feeding America, and The Jed Foundation. Funds will also go to smaller, community-based charities in Auburn and his hometown of Augusta, Georgia.
Auburn Head Coach Bruce Pearl praised Jasper’s commitment to service: “Zep is one of the most selfless young men I’ve ever coached. He leads by example—on the floor, in the locker room, and now, clearly, off the court as well. This is legacy-level impact.”
Though NIL deals can be lucrative, especially for high-profile college athletes, Jasper’s decision has sparked a broader conversation about the purpose of wealth and the responsibility of public figures. Many fans and fellow athletes have applauded his move, calling it a bold and admirable stance in today’s sports culture.
With the new season approaching, Jasper remains focused on winning games—but now with a deeper mission in mind. “Every bucket, every assist, every minute I play this season is for something bigger than basketball,” he said. “It’s about hope. It’s about change.”
