East Lansing, MI — In a massive recruiting victory for Tom Izzo and Michigan State, the Spartans have landed a commitment from 7-foot-tall five-star big man Dominic “DJ” Rawlins, the No. 27 overall player in the 2025 recruiting class. The Phoenix, Arizona native announced his decision via social media on Tuesday afternoon, choosing the Spartans over heavy offers from Arizona, UCLA, Baylor, and Kansas.
The commitment marks one of the biggest recruiting wins of the offseason for Michigan State and further cements Izzo’s program as a national contender heading into the 2025–26 season.

Rawlins, a dominant force at both ends of the floor, averaged 18.5 points, 11.2 rebounds, and 3.4 blocks per game during his senior year at Desert Vista High School. He’s known not just for his elite shot-blocking ability, but also for his soft hands, fluid footwork, and a developing jump shot that makes him a threat from mid-range and beyond.
Recruiting analysts have praised Rawlins for his high basketball IQ and relentless motor, traits that align well with Michigan State’s gritty, team-first culture.
