EAST LANSING, MI — July 3, 2025 — As Tom Izzo celebrates his 30th year as head coach of the Michigan State Spartans men’s basketball program, the numbers behind his career are nothing short of legendary — and continue to grow.
Now entering the 2025–26 season, Izzo has compiled a résumé that places him among the most revered coaches in college basketball history. His legacy is built not only on championships and Final Fours, but also on consistency, character, and loyalty.
A Dynasty in Green and White
Izzo’s accomplishments are staggering:
- 🏆 2000 NCAA National Championship
- 🏀 10 Big Ten Regular Season Titles
- 🎯 6 Big Ten Tournament Championships
- 🏟️ 8 Final Four Appearances
- 👔 8 National Coach of the Year Awards
- 📈 26 Consecutive NCAA Tournament Appearances — the longest active streak in the nation, officially recognized by the NCAA
Izzo made history in 2023 when he became the first men’s basketball head coach in NCAA history to lead his program to 25 straight NCAA Tournament appearances, a streak he extended in 2024 to 26 and is now preparing to build upon in 2025.
“This streak is about more than just basketball,” Izzo said in a recent press conference. “It’s about culture, commitment, and the amazing student-athletes who wear this jersey with pride.”
An Icon of Consistency and Excellence
The Spartans’ tournament streak stands alone in today’s college basketball world, where rapid transfers, coaching changes, and NIL deals have made sustained success increasingly rare. Yet through it all, Izzo has remained the steady heartbeat of Michigan State — recruiting, developing, and inspiring with unmatched tenacity.
“He’s not just a coach — he’s a constant,” said Athletic Director Alan Haller. “No one in college sports has built what Tom Izzo has built — and sustained it for three decades.”
Eyes Still on the Prize
Despite his accolades and legendary status, Izzo remains hungry. With a loaded roster heading into the 2025 season and high-profile commitments like 7’9” Olivier Rioux joining the squad, expectations are once again sky-high in East Lansing.
“I’ve never been more energized,” Izzo said. “There’s still work to be done. Still banners to hang.”
Three decades in, Tom Izzo isn’t just making history — he’s still writing it.
