EAST LANSING, MI — July 3, 2025 — In a moment that celebrates not only coaching greatness but selfless leadership, Michigan State Head Coach Tom Izzo has been officially honored as the 2025 College Basketball Philanthropy Icon, recognizing his extraordinary humanitarian impact and transformative generosity throughout Michigan and beyond.
The award, presented by a coalition of national sports media, nonprofit organizations, and civic leaders, marks Izzo’s decades-long commitment to using his platform to bring meaningful change to lives outside of basketball.
Beyond the Game: A Life of Service
While Izzo’s legendary résumé includes a national championship, 8 Final Four appearances, and a Big Ten-record 26 consecutive NCAA Tournament berths, it is his relentless compassion and tireless support of community causes that have earned him this latest—and perhaps most meaningful—title.
Over the past year alone, Izzo has:
- Donated $2.1 million from his Powerade endorsement to support Michigan State’s football program
- Launched new education funds and mentorship programs for underserved youth across Michigan
- Provided support to orphanages, foster care centers, and mental health initiatives
- Led community clean-up and revitalization projects across Lansing and Flint

Upon receiving the award, Izzo remained humble and forward-looking. “I’ve been blessed beyond words,” he said. “It’s only right that I give back — to Michigan State, to the kids, to anyone who needs hope.”
