EAST LANSING, MI — As families across the country gather to celebrate the season of gratitude, Michigan State University sends a heartfelt message to Spartans everywhere: Happy Thanksgiving! Whether near or far, students, alumni, faculty, staff, and supporters are united today in a powerful spirit of appreciation, reflection, and togetherness.
Thanksgiving offers more than just a time to enjoy great food and family—it provides a meaningful opportunity to pause, give thanks, and celebrate the values that define the Spartan legacy: resilience, service, connection, and pride.
A Message from MSU Leadership
MSU President Teresa Woodruff addressed the university community in a Thanksgiving message this morning:
“Thanksgiving is a reminder of how deeply grateful we are for one another. From our incredible students and faculty to our alumni and supporters worldwide, Spartan Nation is a family built on purpose and compassion. Today, we celebrate those bonds and the difference we make together.”
Spartans Giving Back
In true Spartan fashion, many across the MSU campus have turned Thanksgiving into a time of service and support. Dozens of students, athletes, and volunteers took part in this year’s “Spartans Give Thanks” initiative, distributing thousands of meals, groceries, and warm clothing to families in need across East Lansing and the greater Lansing area.
MSU Football players helped prepare and serve meals at local shelters, while student organizations partnered with community nonprofits for a campus-wide food drive, collecting over 8,000 pounds of donations.
“It’s important that we give back,” said senior linebacker Jordan Harris. “This is what being a Spartan means—showing up for others.”
Celebrations Across Campus
For those who remained on campus during the break, MSU hosted several Thanksgiving-themed events and meals in the residence halls, the International Center, and the Union. Students from more than 30 countries gathered to share stories, traditions, and cultural dishes in a show of global unity.
Campus dining services also created special meals to ensure no Spartan felt alone on this holiday.
One Spartan Family, Wherever You Are
From alumni hosting MSU watch parties in Florida to student groups sharing gratitude online from overseas study programs, the green and white spirit shines bright today.
As we gather around our tables and hold loved ones close, Michigan State University reminds all Spartans:
Once a Spartan, always a Spartan. And today, we give thanks for every one of you. 🦃💚🍁
