— In a stunning move that has already sent shockwaves through the college hockey world, Michigan State University has announced the addition of electric forward Jaxon Reese, the reigning ACC Offensive Player of the Year and All-American from North Carolina State, to its men’s hockey roster for the upcoming 2025–26 season.
Reese, 21, lit up the ACC last season with 28 goals and 34 assists in 36 games, leading NC State to its best finish in program history. Known for his lightning-quick first step, silky hands, and lethal scoring touch, the 5-foot-11 dynamo will now bring his high-octane game to the Big Ten—a conference widely regarded as the toughest in college hockey.
Michigan State head coach Adam Nightingale didn’t hold back his excitement.
“Jaxon is a game-changer. His speed, skill, and competitive fire are second to none. We believe he can make an immediate impact in our lineup and help us chase a national title.”
Originally from Cary, North Carolina, Reese began skating at age five and quickly rose through the ranks of the junior circuits in the Southeast before being recruited to NC State. While the Wolfpack aren’t traditionally a hockey powerhouse, Reese helped elevate the program’s profile with a string of highlight-reel goals and clutch performances, including a four-goal outburst in last year’s ACC semifinal.
His decision to transfer to Michigan State was largely influenced by the opportunity to compete at the highest collegiate level and to boost his NHL Draft stock ahead of next summer.
“I loved my time at NC State. They gave me a platform, and I’ll always be grateful,” said Reese. “But when Michigan State called, it felt like the right next step. I want to test myself against the best and help bring a national championship to East Lansing.”
The Spartans are coming off a strong season, finishing with a 22–11–3 record and a trip to the NCAA tournament’s second round. With Reese joining a talented returning core that includes sophomore standout defenseman Tyson Marek and veteran goalie Lucas Enright, expectations in East Lansing are soaring.
MSU opens its season October 10 against Boston College at Munn Ice Arena—a game already being dubbed a must-watch matchup, thanks to their newest star.
If Jaxon Reese brings even a fraction of his ACC magic to the Big Ten, Spartan hockey fans are in for a thrilling ride.
