The Michigan Wolverines just landed a game-changer.

In a nationally televised decision that drew the eyes of the college football world, Jaylen “Jet” Matthews, a five-star athlete out of Buford High School in Georgia, announced his commitment to the University of Michigan, choosing the Wolverines over SEC powerhouses Tennessee and Auburn. Matthews, ranked No. 8 overall in the ESPN 300 and the No. 1 athlete in the country, brings elite speed, versatility, and star power to Ann Arbor.

“I believe in what Coach Sherrone Moore is building at Michigan,” Matthews said while donning a maize and blue hat. “It’s more than football up there — it’s culture, it’s family, it’s legacy.”

Matthews’ commitment is a monumental boost for Michigan’s 2025 recruiting class, pushing them ahead of both Tennessee and Auburn in ESPN’s updated class rankings, now slotting the Wolverines at No. 3 nationally — their highest July position in over a decade.

Standing 6’1″, 190 pounds, Matthews has been utilized as both a wide receiver and cornerback in high school. Sources close to Michigan’s coaching staff say he’ll start on offense but will also get looks in the return game. His 4.35-second 40-yard dash and 38-inch vertical leap have made scouts salivate at his two-way potential.

“This kid can do it all,” said ESPN’s Tom Luginbill. “He’s a Day 1 difference-maker. Michigan’s getting a leader, a freak athlete, and a future NFL first-rounder.”

Matthews’ decision follows a high-stakes recruiting battle that saw both Auburn and Tennessee make last-minute pitches, including official visits and NIL offers reported to be among the highest for any 2025 recruit. However, in the end, the academic profile, championship culture, and track record of NFL development at Michigan sealed the deal.

For Michigan fans, this commitment is more than just a headline — it’s a signal that the Wolverines are reloading, not rebuilding, after their recent College Football Playoff appearances.

With Matthews now onboard, all eyes turn to Michigan’s next major target: five-star quarterback Malik Hawkins, who is set to announce in two weeks.

But for now, Ann Arbor is buzzing — and rightfully so.

“Go Blue,” Matthews said with a grin, “Let’s win a natty.”
