ย โ In a decision that has sent shockwaves through the college football world, the nationโs No. 1-ranked high school football prospect, Jayden โJetโ Marshall, officially announced his commitment to the Oklahoma Sooners, choosing Brent Venables’ program over a long list of powerhouse suitors, including Tennessee, BYU, Alabama, Georgia, and USC.
Marshall, a 6-foot-4, 220-pound quarterback out of Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California, made his announcement during a nationally televised press conference on ESPN, donning a crimson Sooners hat before unzipping his jacket to reveal an Oklahoma jersey underneath. The move instantly elevates OU’s 2025 recruiting class to No. 2 nationally, trailing only Ohio State.
โI wanted a place where I could lead, grow, and win a national championship,โ Marshall said. โCoach Venables and Coach Lebby believed in me from day one. They didnโt just sell me a program โ they showed me a family.โ
Jaydenโs recruitment has been the most closely followed saga of the 2025 class. He received over 40 Division I offers, including full-court presses from Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide, who hosted him twice in Tuscaloosa, and Tennessee, where he developed a strong rapport with Coach Josh Heupel. BYUโs faith-based appeal and family-friendly environment also made them a serious contender.
In the end, it was Oklahomaโs tradition, fanbase, and rising program momentum that sealed the deal.
โOU is building something special,โ Marshall said. โThe way theyโve developed quarterbacks โ from Baker to Kyler to Caleb โ it just made sense.โ
Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables expressed excitement following the commitment. โJayden is a generational talent. His leadership, athleticism, and football IQ are off the charts,โ he said. โWeโre thrilled to welcome him to Norman.โ
Marshall passed for over 4,000 yards and 45 touchdowns in his junior season and rushed for 700 yards and 11 more scores. Widely regarded as a dual-threat phenom, analysts have compared him to a young Lamar Jackson with Josh Allenโs arm strength.
With Marshall on board, Oklahoma looks poised to reclaim its place as a national title contender as it prepares for its second full season in the SEC.
Recruiting analysts call it a โmassive winโ for the Sooners โ and a โgut punchโ for several top-tier programs left in the dust.
Jayden Marshall will graduate early and is expected to enroll at Oklahoma in January 2026.
