TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – In a stunning and heartwarming development, legendary Alabama football coach Nick Saban is officially returning to the University of Alabama—but this time in a new role. The iconic coach, who led the Crimson Tide to six national championships during his remarkable tenure, will now serve as Senior Coaching Advisor to the Alabama Football Program, the school announced Thursday morning.
After retiring from his head coaching duties in January 2024, Saban’s future with the university remained a topic of speculation. But today, Alabama fans can celebrate the return of one of college football’s greatest minds to the sidelines—this time in an executive advisory capacity. His new position will allow him to support the coaching staff, mentor players, and help shape the long-term vision for Alabama football.
“This university has meant everything to me and Miss Terry,” Saban said in a statement. “It’s a blessing to continue serving the Crimson Tide family in a new capacity. I’m here to support our players, our coaches, and help this program remain the gold standard.”
Saban’s influence on the game remains unparalleled. During his 17 seasons as Alabama’s head coach (2007–2023), he compiled a staggering 201–29 record, won six national championships, and produced dozens of first-round NFL draft picks. Now, he brings that championship wisdom to a support role at a crucial time for the program as it transitions into a new era under current head coach Kalen DeBoer.
Athletic Director Greg Byrne called Saban’s return a “powerful moment” for the university:
