Head coach Vincent Kompany addressed the media on Friday morning ahead of Bayern Munich’s much-anticipated Bundesliga Klassiker at home against Borussia Dortmund. The Belgian manager, joined by sporting director Max Eberl, discussed team news, key player updates, and his mindset before the top-of-the-table showdown at the Allianz Arena.
“All the players have returned from international duty healthy,” Kompany confirmed. “Rafa [Guerreiro] took a knock against Frankfurt and will train today. Then we’ll see if he can be included. Josip Stanisic is still out.”
On the highly anticipated clash, Kompany said: “We’ve got the motivation for this Klassiker — first against second, both unbeaten. We’re excited about this game. Dortmund have shown a lot of stability and have players who can always score. Serhou Guirassy is very efficient, and their midfield and defense bring a lot of experience. But we’re at home and really up for this game. Hopefully, it’ll be a great match for the fans and a good result for us.”
Asked about the possibility of breaking Dortmund’s record start, Kompany played down the hype: “That’s not a thing for me. We just want to win. These top games against Dortmund are almost like their own cup competition. It’s not about records or points — we just want to beat Dortmund.”
On Harry Kane, the Bayern boss was full of praise: “He’s unlocked his next level by himself. His mentality keeps him hungry, and he knows his role perfectly in the team. He not only scores goals but helps others shine too.”
He also shared positive news on Alphonso Davies: “Things look good. Phonzy is progressing well, and perhaps even ahead of schedule. The medical team and he are working perfectly together.”
Max Eberl, meanwhile, lauded the team’s development under Kompany: “We’ve built great togetherness since the Club World Cup. The energy and desire to win have grown. Vincent has been a stroke of luck for us.”
With both teams unbeaten and separated by just a few points, Kompany summed up the mood perfectly: “They’re a fist, we’re a fist — two strong teams going head-to-head. Now that the international break is over, we’re ready to go for it.”
