West Ham plan to avoid changing managers for a 2nd time this season & will back Nuno Espírito Santo in January [@TimesSport]

West Ham United are preparing for a crucial January transfer window, but unlike in previous turbulent seasons, the club’s leadership is determined to maintain stability. According to reports from The Times, the Hammers have no intention of changing managers for a second time this season and will instead give their full backing to Nuno Espírito Santo as he looks to reshape and strengthen the squad in the coming months.

It’s been a mixed start to life under Nuno, with flashes of progress but also inconsistency in front of goal. The Portuguese manager has been clear about his vision for the team — a more structured, physically dominant side that can control games better and make full use of its attacking potential. However, one major shortcoming in the current squad has been the lack of a true target man, a profile of striker that fits Nuno’s preferred system.

West Ham’s board reportedly agree with that assessment and are prepared to support the manager’s request in January. Nuno is said to be prioritising the signing of a tall, physical centre-forward capable of holding up the ball, pressing intelligently, and bringing others into play — the kind of forward who can both score and facilitate attacks. This approach marks a shift in the club’s strategy after what the board now acknowledges was a mistake in the summer transfer window.

By relying solely on the signing of Callum Wilson, the club left itself with limited attacking options. Wilson, though experienced and sharp in front of goal, has struggled with fitness issues, and the lack of depth up front has become a recurring problem throughout the first half of the campaign. The board’s recognition of this misstep is seen as a positive sign that lessons are being learned.

Crucially, the decision to back Nuno rather than make another managerial change reflects a growing desire within the club to build something sustainable. Frequent changes in leadership have disrupted progress in recent years, and the hierarchy now appears ready to show patience and trust in Nuno’s long-term plan.

If the club can deliver his top targets in January, West Ham fans could see a more balanced, dangerous, and competitive side emerge in the second half of the season. Stability, ambition, and smart recruitment — that’s the formula Nuno and the board are now banking on. ⚒️
