Crystal Palace are pushing strongly to secure one of England’s most promising young attacking talents, as negotiations with Chelsea for 18-year-old Tyrique George move into an advanced phase. The South London club is working on a pre-agreement that would allow George to join them once the January transfer window opens, with all sides currently engaged in discussions over structure, future development plans and potential clauses.
Tyrique George, regarded as one of the standout prospects in Chelsea’s academy, has been making waves with his performances at youth level, particularly in Premier League 2 and the UEFA Youth League. Known for his pace, creativity, and eye for goal when cutting inside from the left wing, George has long been monitored by several Premier League clubs – but Crystal Palace have now taken concrete steps to bring him in.
Palace’s pursuit fits perfectly into their long-term strategy under sporting director Dougie Freedman, who has prioritised the recruitment of young players with high potential and strong resale value – a model that has already proved successful with stars like Michael Olise, Eberechi Eze and Marc Guéhi. The latter, also a former Chelsea academy graduate, is a key example of Palace offering a clear development pathway outside of Stamford Bridge.
From Chelsea’s side, the situation is still open. The club is evaluating whether to let George leave permanently, include a buy-back clause, or push instead for a loan move with an option or obligation to buy. With the Blues’ first team stacked with attacking signings and a pathway currently blocked for academy forwards, George is believed to be considering his options carefully.
Palace are confident they can offer what Chelsea currently cannot: immediate first-team proximity. The club has built a strong reputation for giving young players minutes in the Premier League under managers like Patrick Vieira, Roy Hodgson and now Oliver Glasner.
If finalized, this could be one of the most interesting under-the-radar transfers of the winter window – a Premier League move that makes sense for all parties, especially the player.
Talks are ongoing. Deal not done yet, but developing fast. ⏳🔥
