Auburn’s new era under head coach Alex Golesh has taken another significant step forward, as the program officially announced the hiring of DeMarcus Van Dyke as the Tigers’ new cornerbacks coach. The move, widely anticipated since Golesh’s arrival on The Plains last month, marks an important addition to Auburn’s defensive staff and reinforces the head coach’s commitment to building a fast, disciplined, and modern football program.

Van Dyke, who previously served under Golesh at South Florida, was one of the assistants expected to follow him to Auburn. Known for his elite recruiting ability, strong player development skills, and deep understanding of defensive back play, Van Dyke brings both experience and energy to a Tigers secondary looking to elevate its performance in the ultra-competitive SEC.

Golesh praised the hire as a perfect fit for Auburn’s vision moving forward.
“DeMarcus is one of the brightest young coaches in college football,” Golesh said in a statement. “His ability to connect with players, develop NFL-level cornerbacks, and recruit at an elite level will be invaluable as we build the type of program Auburn deserves.”

Van Dyke’s coaching resume is built on a strong foundation of both playing and teaching the position. A former NFL cornerback and standout at the University of Miami, he transitioned into coaching soon after his pro career and quickly earned recognition as a rising star. His work with defensive backs at Miami and later at South Florida helped shape several young talents into reliable, high-level performers.

For Auburn, the hire couldn’t come at a better time. The Tigers are entering a rebuilding phase with a defense that showed flashes of potential but lacked the consistency needed to compete with powerhouse programs like Alabama, Georgia, and LSU. With Van Dyke on board, Auburn gains a coach who specializes in refining technique, improving coverage discipline, and turning raw athletes into polished playmakers.

Players inside the Auburn locker room have already expressed excitement about the hire, noting Van Dyke’s reputation for being hands-on, detail-oriented, and highly relatable — a coach who challenges his players while building trust and confidence.

Off the field, Van Dyke’s recruiting prowess is expected to significantly boost Auburn’s ability to attract top defensive back prospects from across the South. His connections in Florida and the Southeast could help the Tigers reshape their defensive identity over the next few recruiting cycles.

As Alex Golesh continues assembling his staff, the hiring of DeMarcus Van Dyke stands out as a major win — a move that strengthens Auburn’s coaching roster and underscores the program’s commitment to returning to national prominence.

With energy rising around the program and key staff pieces falling into place, Auburn supporters have every reason to believe that a new, competitive era is beginning on The Plains.
