Confidence is building in the west, and fullback Dylan Edwards believes the foundation has already been laid for a strong start to 2026.
Speaking to the media ahead of the season opener against the Brisbane Broncos, Edwards made it clear that preparation has been sharp, focused, and intense.
“We’ve had a great pre-season,” Edwards said. “The boys have worked extremely hard. There’s been a real hunger around the group, and everyone’s pushing each other to get better every session.”
The reigning premiers head into Round 1 with purpose as they prepare for a blockbuster clash at Suncorp Stadium. For Edwards, the key has been fitness, cohesion, and attention to detail — three pillars that have defined the success of the Penrith Panthers in recent seasons.
Building Momentum Early
Edwards emphasised that while pre-season results don’t count on the ladder, the work behind closed doors matters deeply.
“You don’t win anything in pre-season, but you can definitely set standards,” he explained. “The intensity at training has been high. Everyone’s competing for spots, and that lifts the whole squad.”
The Panthers spine, led by co-captain Nathan Cleary, looks settled and sharp, and Edwards noted how important that continuity is heading into a hostile away environment.
Ready For The Challenge
Facing Brisbane in their own backyard is never easy, but Edwards sees it as the perfect test to open the campaign.
“It’s a big challenge up there, but that’s what Round 1 is about,” he said. “You want to measure yourself against quality opposition. The environment will be loud, but we’re excited for it.”
The 28-year-old fullback also spoke about the team’s mindset — controlled aggression, discipline, and trusting their systems. According to Edwards, if Penrith stick to their structure and outwork their opponents, the result will take care of itself.
A Call To Arms
With the countdown to kick-off ticking away, Edwards’ message to fans was simple: the group is ready.
“We’ve prepared well. Now it’s about turning up and doing it when it counts.”
If the pre-season form translates to the field, expect Edwards to be heavily involved — chiming into backline movements, defusing attacking kicks, and driving his teammates forward with relentless support play.
Round 1 isn’t just another game. It’s the first step in a new chapter — and Dylan Edwards is determined to help rouse the Panthers to victory from the very first whistle. 🐾🏉
