The Penrith Panthers have secured another promising young talent for the future, with outside back Saumani Montee Leatupue signing with the club for the 2027 season.
Leatupue, who comes from St Marys, has already gained valuable representative experience and will now take the next important step in his rugby league development by joining the Panthers’ Harold Matthews Cup team next year.
The young outside back has impressed during his junior career and has represented the NSW CIS (Combined Independent Schools) Under-15s boys team, giving him experience at a representative level and the opportunity to test himself against some of the best young players in his age group.
His selection for the NSW CIS side highlights the potential that Penrith have identified in the talented youngster. The Panthers have built a strong reputation for developing junior players and giving them a pathway toward professional rugby league, making the move an exciting opportunity for Leatupue.
Joining the Harold Matthews team will provide the St Marys product with an important platform to continue developing his skills. The competition is renowned for featuring some of the most promising young rugby league players in the state, and Leatupue will have the chance to learn from experienced coaches while competing alongside other highly rated prospects.
As an outside back, Leatupue will be looking to continue improving the key aspects of his game, including his attacking ability, defensive positioning, ball-carrying and decision-making. His representative background should provide him with valuable experience as he adapts to the demands of playing within Penrith’s highly regarded junior system.
