Rangers Snatch Dramatic Late Win as Miovski Seals Victory Over St Mirren
Rangers produced another dramatic late victory on Wednesday night, defeating St Mirren 1–0 at Ibrox thanks to a stoppage-time goal from Bojan Miovski. The result extended Rangers’ winning run to four matches and moved Derek McInnes’ side into second place in the Scottish Premiership.
Rangers started the match with plenty of attacking intent and dominated large portions of the first half. However, despite creating several promising opportunities, they struggled to find a way past an impressive St Mirren defence. Goalkeeper Jacob Chapman was particularly outstanding, making a number of important saves to keep the visitors level.
As the game progressed, St Mirren grew increasingly confident. Rangers’ early control began to disappear, and the visitors started creating opportunities of their own. Fraser Taylor came particularly close to breaking the deadlock when he found himself through on goal, but Rangers goalkeeper Ivor Pandur produced a crucial save to prevent St Mirren from taking the lead.
The pressure on Rangers increased as the second half continued. The home supporters became increasingly anxious as their team struggled to convert possession and opportunities into goals. St Mirren’s disciplined defending made life difficult for the Rangers attack, while Chapman continued to frustrate the home side.
McInnes responded by making changes, eventually introducing Miovski as Rangers searched desperately for a breakthrough. The North Macedonian striker had started the season down the pecking order among Rangers’ forwards, but injuries to other attacking players have given him an opportunity to play a more important role.
His moment finally arrived in the 91st minute.
Ryan Naderi provided the opportunity with a headed pass, allowing Miovski to get into a dangerous position inside the box. Showing excellent composure, the striker lifted the ball over Chapman and into the net to send Ibrox into celebration. It was a superb finish at exactly the moment Rangers needed it most.
The victory was particularly important because Rangers had looked increasingly likely to drop points during the second half. Instead, Miovski’s late intervention secured all three points and gave Rangers a fourth consecutive victory.
The result also strengthened Rangers’ position in the league. They moved up to second place with 13 points from six matches, although Celtic remained five points ahead after maintaining their perfect start to the campaign.
There was, however, some concern for Rangers beyond the victory. McInnes confirmed that Lawrence Shankland and Daisuke Yokota are set to undergo surgery, with Yokota expected to be unavailable for two to three months and Shankland facing a potentially longer absence.
Despite those setbacks, Miovski’s emergence provides Rangers with an important attacking option. His late winner demonstrated both his finishing ability and his readiness to take advantage of his opportunity.
With Rangers now enjoying four consecutive victories, confidence is growing at Ibrox. Their upcoming clashes with Celtic will provide a much bigger test, but Wednesday night’s dramatic win ensured Rangers will enter those fixtures with valuable momentum.
