The Golden State Warriors have made another intriguing move ahead of training camp, securing the services of 6’8″ sharpshooter Blake Hinson. This development comes on the heels of Hinson’s recent release from the Los Angeles Lakers, where he had signed a two-way contract earlier this summer.
As reported by Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, Hinson has inked an Exhibit 10 contract with the Warriors, offering him a shot at joining the team’s G League affiliate, the Santa Cruz Warriors. Though not expected to be a fixture on the NBA roster, this deal allows Hinson to demonstrate his potential, primarily as a front-court shooter.
Despite going undrafted in the 2024 NBA Draft, Hinson showed promise during his stint with the Lakers in the Summer League. Averaging 10.9 points and 2.5 rebounds over eight games, his shooting stats—34.1% from the field and 32.8% from beyond the arc—may not fully reflect his capabilities. In fact, Hinson’s college career was marked by a strong shooting presence. Last season, he led the ACC in three-point percentage, sinking 42.1% of his 7.9 attempts per game for the Pittsburgh Panthers. His season averages of 18.5 points and 4.4 rebounds showcased his offensive skills.
For a Warriors team known for its emphasis on shooting and spacing, Hinson brings an intriguing blend of size and shooting range. Though it’s unlikely he’ll make the Warriors’ final roster this season, the franchise will likely focus on developing him through their G League program. As Golden State continues to explore ways to strengthen their depth, Hinson is the latest player to sign an Exhibit 10 deal, joining recent additions like point guard Yuri Collins and forwards Javan Johnson, Donta Scott, and Jackson Rowe.
As the Warriors prepare for training camp, which kicks off in Hawaii on September 30, it will be interesting to see if Hinson’s shooting ability can carve out a long-term role in the organization. His first chance to make an impression will come in Golden State’s preseason opener against the L.A. Clippers on October 5.
